Ambar News:

The following was cut and pasted from the game's News page:

Ambar Latest News
To get the absolute latest news you should go to the Announcements Forum

Main Forum Problems October 10th, 2002 - Eladimri

When the server was moved, some PHP settings were changed (I think), causing problems with the main site forum. Right now no one can post a reply or new thread. I will get this fixed as soon as I can get Andrew working on it.

Game Reset October 10th, 2002 - Eladimri

The game has been reset. This won't be too long a round, maybe a month. I didn't change anything at all, just reset the game.

Andrew sent me an email saying that the server had a major hardware failure and had to be replaced. Although there seems to have been some problem in copying things over, everything seemed as normal when I looked this morning.

Unfortunate Events August 30th, 2002 - Eladimri

Hi all.

Unfortunately, events have come up that will force me to abandon Ambar for at least a week or two, maybe longer. I will post more when I am able, but for now there will be no restart.

Game and Forums Down August 5th, 2002 - Eladimri

The server crashed again over the weekend, corrupting the database. So far my efforts to repair it have failed. I am contacting our hosts to get them involved, but I am unsure how long it will take at this point.

Soft Reset July 29th, 2002 - Eladimri

I was able to do a soft reset. Actually, I did two, as I missed Alchemy with the first one. Hopefully everyone will have time to get things in order before time starts tomorrow.

Reset problems... July 29th, 2002 - Eladimri

Without fail, there was a problem with the reset. If it was always the same I could avoid repeating the error.

As soon as I can correct the problem, I will do a reset. At this point it looks like I'll need to do a hard reset, but maybe I can get lucky and do a soft.

Reset today at 5:00 PM, CST July 26th, 2002 - Eladimri

Make no mistake, it WILL happen then :o)

That's all, enjoy!

-josh

Round to End Soon July 15th, 2002 - Eladimri

I plan to reset the game on Wednesday, I think...

Please go read my thread in suggestions and share your feelings with me.

More to come...

GameFAQs Update:

The following News was cut and pasted from the site's front page:

GameFAQs Site News
10/6/02 8:56PM: Routers, Mistakes, and E-Mail
Three quick bits of information. First of all, GameFAQs' Internet provider has supposedly swapped out the bad router, which should prevent any further downtime incidents. I hope. Secondly, there was a bug in the "Update Your Contributor Information" page at Contributor Central which corrupted the data, so if you sent in a change to your contributor page through the form in the past couple of days, please re-submit it when you get a chance. Sorry about that, my mistake, I didn't double-check the form after I posted it. Finally, all of the old GameFAQs e-mail addresses are now shut down. Any mails sent to them will be met with an autoresponder, and I won't see the messages any longer.

10/4/02 11:16PM: Quick Downtime
Somewhere, a router cries in pain. When this happens, all access to the site is lost. Yes, even for me. In other news, the new help files are slowly expanding, and should be complete by the end of the weekend.

10/3/02 5:32PM: New Help Files, New E-Mail
The "Help" link in the left-hand menu bar has now been updated across the site. There is still a lot of content left to be added there, but it's a start. You may also notice that all of the standard GameFAQs contact e-mails have been changed, and subject-based mail filtering is also in place. Not only does this effectively block spam, but helps to get people to actually read the Help Files before sending e-mails with questions that have already been answered. The "old" GameFAQs e-mail addresses will be permanently shut down this weekend, with the exception of the submission addresses, which will remain the same until that section of the help files is properly filled out.

Warfleet Starts its 2nd Round:

Round 2 of this ambitious Trade Wars inspired game has just begun.

Planetarion Update:

Planetarion, a game that went pay to play last year after repeatedly promising its players that it would never, ever go that route has announced that its current round will be its last. This is a direct result of both its going pay to play and also the way that it was done. Basically, Planetarion tried to fleece its players by charging high rates and also by adopting a bizarre scheme by which players would be forced to pay for other players. The result was a drop in the game's playership of over 80% in just a few months. The number of players have continued to decline and as a result, PA is basically being forced out of business.
